It’s the summer of 1957: Ferrari is in a deep crisis. The sports cars are selling slowly, which means the Scuderia’s financing is in jeopardy. In addition, competitor Maserati achieved victories in important races. And Enzo Ferrari’s (Adam Driver) private life is anything but smooth. The death of son Dino overshadows his marriage to Laura Ferrari (Penélope Cruz), Enzo’s affair Lina Lardi (Shailene Woodley) pushes for their son Piero to be given the surname Ferrari. A ray of hope for Ferrari: a victory in the 1000 km Mille Miglia race across Italy should bring the brand back to fame. However, a bad accident overshadows this glimmer of hope.
The biopic dares to bridge the gap between the private problems and financial worries of the ambitious car manufacturer and racing driver Enzo. However, director Michael Mann (“Ali”) breaks with the classic quirks of a biography: the entire plot only takes place in one summer in the life of Ferrari Enzo. The top-class cast doesn’t mean you’ll get bored: In addition to Adam Driver as Enzo and Oscar winner Penélope Cruz (“Vicky Cristina Barcelona”) as his wife Laura, there are also Patrick Dempsey (“Grey’s Anatomy”) and Jack O’Connell (“Unbroken”) ) has been available exclusively for Germany and Austria on Amazon Prime since March 1, 2024.
